DEATH SUMMONS JOHN MATTSON IN LOCAL HOSPITAL

Final rites for John Mattson, pioneer resident of Klickitat County and a retired rancher, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Phillips funeral home, with Rev. C.J. Hall, pastor of the Goldendale Methodist Church, in charge.

Interment was in the Grange cemetery at Centerville.

Deceased was the son of Lars and Anna Mattson and was born in Finland August 8, 1870. The family came to the United States in 1873, locating in Michigan. They came to Klickitat county in 1877 when they moved to Centerville. Mattson made his home there until January of 1945, when he retired from active management of his ranch and moved to Goldendale.

His death occurred in Goldendale General hospital last Thursday, December 12.

He was married in 1889 to Amanda Thompson, of Centerville, and two children -Cordelia and Embert - were born. Mrs. Mattson passed away in 1894. In June of 1898 he married Mary E. Wiidanen and ten children were born to this union.

Two children preceded their father in death - Alvin at the age of 13 and Theodore at the age of 19. Those to survive him are Mrs. Cordelia A. Blum, Wheeler, Oregon; Embert, of Kelso; Edward, Goodnoe Hills; Chester, Astoria, Oregon; Otis, Centerville; Ivan, Goldendale; Mrs. Hazel Taylor, Lyle; Richard, Centerville; Maurice, Astoria, Oregon; and Raymond of Goldendale.

He also leaves the wife, 13 grandchildren, three brothers; August, Goldendale, Arthur and Frank, of Centerville, and one sister, Mrs. Matilda Ahola, also of Centerville.

He had a wide circle of friends and was a member of the Finnish Lutheran church and the Centerville Grange.

John Mattson, son of Lars and Anna Mattson, was born in Finland August 8, 1870. He came to Michigan in 1873, where he resided with his parents until 1877. In that year he came to Centerville, Klickitat County, Washington. In January 1945 he retired to Goldendale, Washington, where he lived until his death on December 12, 1946, at Goldendale General Hospital. He had been confined there for several days before his death.

In 1889 he was married to Amanda Thompson of Centerville. To this union two children were born - Cordelia and Embert. His wife passed away in 1894.

On June 21, 1898 he was married to Mary E. Wiidanen; to this union ten children were born; Edward, Chester, Otis, Ivan, Hazel, Richard, Maurice and Raymond. Two children preceded him in death; Alvin aged 13 months, and Theodore, aged 19 years.

These children survive his going: Mrs. Cordelia Blum, Wheeler, Oregon; Ember, Kelso; Edward, Goodnoe Hills; Chester, Astoria, Oregon; Otis, Centerville; Ivan, Goldendale; Mrs. Hazel Taylor, Lyle; Richard, Centerville; Maurice, Astoria, Oregon; and Raymond of Goldendale. Besides these, he is also survived by 13 grandchildren, three brothers; August, Goldendale, Arthur and Frank, of Centerville, and one sister, Mrs. Matilda Ahola, also of Centerville.

He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church at Centerville, and the Centerville Grange.

Internment was in Centerville on December 14, 1946, under the direction of Rev. C.J. Hall, Goldendale.
