He immigrated with his family at the age of 7 to the United States, arriving 11 Jul 1881 at the Port of New York. They then made their way to Appleton, Wisconsin.
Bastiaan was later known as 'Sebastian.'
He was a troubled youth, and was sent to correctional schools and later to the Outagamie County Asylum after his arrest and charge of insanity after some fires in the old Fourth Ward in Appleton in 1904.
Sebastian passed away 22 May 1950 at the age of 76 and was buried along with his family members at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Appleton.
NB: Bastiaan's headstone has an incorrect birth year of 1876, it was really 1873 as proved by his birth entry in the Ovezande town records in the Netherlands (pictured)
