John was born 'Jan Knuit' 8 Jan 1877 in Ovezande, Zeeland, Netherlands. He was the fourth child of Marinus 'Martin' Knuijt and Johanna (nee De Jonge). He immigrated with his family, arriving in the port of New York 11 Jul 1881 and settling in Appleton ,Wisconsin.
John married Therese Hantschel 9 Nov 1904 and they had 7 children together.
John and his wife were both active members around the 4th Ward, hosting bridge parties and gatherings at their home. John held a prominent position in the Sacred Heart Parish along with his brother Edward, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
John worked at the Appleton Chair Company.
John passed away 17 Jan 1946 at the age of 69 and was laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton.
