Paul Bond, and his twin sister, Ruth, were born December 16, 1909 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Their parents were Jefferson Davis Bond Sr., a farmer, and Mary Caroline Holcomb. The family moved to Texas about 1918, and J. D. Bond, Sr. bought a farm in Montgomery County, Texas. In 1925, J. D. and Mary Bond bought land in Harris County on Hardy Road where they built a family home and farmed. The house remained in the family until 1975.

In 1926, Paul Bond got a job at the newly established Houston Textile Mill on Montgomery Road in Houston, Texas. That is where he met his future wife, Annie Miettinen, who also went to work at the mill in 1926. They were married in August 1927 and lived in company housing on Old East Montgomery Road in Houston. Many of their friends and relatives, including Annie's sister Alice, also worked at the mill.

During his career at the textile mill, while working as a loom mechanic, Paul developed an invention for "a new and useful improvement in "Shuttle-box position selectors or indicators". A patent application, in the name of Paul Bond of Houston Texas, was filed October 22, 1937, and the patent was issued July 12, 1938.

During World War II, Paul worked as a machinist first class at Hughes Tool Company, machining shell casings. After the war, he became a carpenter and worked for over thirty years in residential construction, during the housing boom in Houston.
