Daniel Spach (later changed to Spaugh) was the ninth of thirteen known children of Jacob Spach (1768-1856) and Sarah Tesch (became Tesh) Spach (1772-1844) who married 31 Dec 1790 at North Carolina.

Daniel married Anna Catharine Fishel (1808-1888) on 04 Nov 1830 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Daniel and Anna spent their entire lives in the vicinity of the Moravian community of Friedberg, initially on the border of Stokes and Rowan (now Forsyth and Davidson) Counties, North Carolina. Daniel and Anna were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Susanna Regina Spach Burke Fishel (1831-1898)
2. Sarah Sophia Spach (1832-1848)
3. Benjamin Alexander Spach (1834-1863)
4. Antoinette Elizabeth Spach Berrier (1836-1882)
5. James Adam Spaugh (1838-1863)
6. Timothy Sanford Spaugh (1841-1900)
7. Maria Christina Spach Hill (1843-1928)
8. Belinda Louise Spaugh (1846-1922)
