Rose retired from Shippensburg University in 1990, where she was a custodial supervisor. She was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Chambersburg and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Ladies Auxiliary Shippensburg. Rose was a very outgoing and generous person who loved to socialize and shop. She was always one to help others; Rose generously contributed to the Disabled American Veterans, the Bethesda Mission and other charities.
Rose is survived by three sons, Kenneth E. Stoner, Jr. (and wife, Linda) and Wayne P. Stoner (and wife, Jennie) all of Mechanicsburg, and Ronnie E. Stoner (and wife, Nancy Tannalfo) Stoner of Windham, NH; and two daughters, Bonnie L. Hockley (and husband, Raymond) and Connie Marie Stoner, all of Carlisle. She also leaves stepsons, Thomas Stoner (and wife, Chris), and Wayne E. Stoner of IL. Additionally, she leaves 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. "Whitey" Stoner, Sr., who died Jan. 23, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her son, Carl L. Hosfelt; two sisters, Janet Hartman and Elizabeth Rhone; and seven brothers, Charles, William, Arthur, Elmer, Earl, Walter, and Harry Bowermaster.
A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff McCracken and the Rev. Dennis D. Chisholm. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
