She was born on March 1, 1924 in Jacksonville, PA. Proud of her heritage, she was one of ten children whose parents were the late Allen H. and Mary Bossert Brown.
After graduating from Lock Haven High School in 1942 she entered Lock Haven State Teacher's College and graduated in 1949. During World War II she worked at the Piper Aircraft Corporation, Lock Haven, to support the war effort.
Jane began her teaching career in a one room school house in the Bellefonte Area School District and she retired from Keystone Central School District in 1989. During her teaching career she was a wonderful role model and touched many lives.
Jane was predeceased by her husband of 59 years , Jacob B. "Jake" Smith on May 2, 2007. They were married August 17, 1947.
Jane and Jake loved their dancing and during the 1950's and 60's it would not be unusual to see them jitterbugging to Big Band music at the Lock Haven Elks on a Saturday night.
She was survived by one daughter; one son ; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Also a special sister and several nieces and nephews
Jane was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret Waite, Mary Keyser, Betty Corman, and Louise Richey; four brothers, Allen (Sonny), John, Bill and Frank Brown; a son-in-law, Gary A. Confer.
A funeral service honoring the life of Jane Brown Smith was held in the Dean K. Wetzler, Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, with her nephew, the Reverend John Bossert Brown officiating.
Interment, Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

Miss Jane R. Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen H. Brown of Mill Hall RD, and Jacob B. Smith, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob B. Smith, 307 Vesper Street, were united in marriage Sunday in a double-ring ceremony at the Immaculate Conception rectory by the Reverend Joseph M. O'Toole.
They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Russell of this city.
The bride is s graduate of the Lock Haven High School in 1942 and is now attending the local Teachers College where she plans to continue her studies.
Mr. Smith was graduated from the State College High School in 1942, attended Penn State, and is now associated in business with his father.
He and his bride are on a wedding trip to Philadelphia, Atlantic City and New York. On their return they will live at the Smith Apartments, 42 East Church Street.
