Mrs. Berly, age 89, died on February 14, 2015. She had been a resident of Plantation Estates for several years. Before moving to Matthews, she had lived in Sumter, S.C., Wilmington, N.C., and in Raleigh, N.C. for 39 years. She was born in Clarkton, N.C. and was the daughter of Mitchell M. and Rowena M. Buie.

Mrs. Berly graduated from Clarkton High School and was Valedictorian of her class. She later attended the Business School of Flora Macdonald College in Red Springs, N.C. Following her schooling, she worked at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. as Secretary to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. After moving to Raleigh, she was also Secretary to the Head of the Music Department at Meredith College.

Mrs. Berly is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Robert H. Berly, Jr.; a daughter, Barbara, of Indian Trail, N.C.; a second daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Randy Baker, of Waxhaw, N.C.; two grandsons, Cameron and Trent Baker. She is also survived by two sisters, Dobbie Thompson of Vidalia, Ga. and Mary Little of Clarkton, N.C. Other survivors included many nieces and nephews and their families.

A private mausoleum service will be held in Raleigh. A memorial service will be held at Plantation Estates, 701 Plantation Estates Drive, Matthews, N.C., on February 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
