Walter F. Klinghammer, 93, 1513 Z Ave., died Friday March 29, 1991, at Valley View Care Center. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Elgin Cemetery with Mitchel Finley officiating. Services are under the direction of Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel. Mr. Klinghammer was born March 11, 1898, in Vadalia, Ill., to John and Anna Klinghammer. His family moved to this area in 1900. He graduated from Elgin High School and later managed food stores. After retiring as the manager of Chris'Foods in La Grande he went to barber school and returned to operate the Elgin Barbershop. He married Ruby Day in 1924. She died in 1968. He moved to Portland in 1967 and returned to La Grande in 1969. He married Myra Hazelwood in 1972. He was a member of La Grande Elks Lodge 433 and loved hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Myra of La Grande; son Donald of Eugene; daughter, Marjorie Cameron of Spokane; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Four brothers, Charles, Hugo, Otto and Reinhold, and a sister Ida Hallgarth, died earlier.
