Charles Klinghammer, former LaGrande resident, died in a Portland nursing home June 10 at the age of 85. Klinghammer was born Nov. 15, 1884, in Vandlia, Ill. He came to Oregon when 13 and later moved to La Grande. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad all his life...starting as a fireman and retiring as an engineer in 1950. He moved to Portland in 1967 to live with a daughter. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Benten, Portland; three brothers, Ronald of Wichita, Kans...Hugo of La Grande...and Walter of Elgin; six grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
