Swedish-American pioneer. His original Swedish name was Johannes Ridderstedt, and he has also been called John Ridderstedt, Jr. When young, he was a steamboat captain in Borlänge. After the death of their first child, he and his first wife moved to the United States and went out west. They had three more children, two sons and a daughter while he was a railroad engineer and subsequent executive. His first wife having died young, he married secondly and had another daughter. He built his own house in Fort Collins.
