He was born December 5, 1920 in East Athens, Pa., the son of the late Robert C. and Hattie M. Ridgeway Callear. Bob was a resident of Athens Twp. his entire life.
Bob a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre. After returning from the war, one of the highpoints of his life was passing under the Golden Gate Bridge. He worked as a car salesman, employed by Croft Ford, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Bob was a lifetime member of the Athens United Methodist Church. Bob served on the Tioga Point Cemetery Board for 44 years, and served as the president of the board for 20 years. He was a life member of the VFW Skiff Bower Post #1536, and a lifetime member of the Rural Amity F&AM Lodge, where he just received his 70 year membership.
He is predeceased by his wife Helen, brothers Clinton, Gerald, and Elmer Callear, sisters Alene Farley, Evelyn Wurtenberg, Alta Rolfe, Lillian Burns, Hattie Callear, and Herethel Johnson.
Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law John and Judy Callear of Wellsburg, N.Y., grandchildren Andrea and Mark Dangelo of Elmira, N.Y., Megan and Nick Peters of Geneva, N.Y., and James and Jessica Callear of Elmira, N.Y., great-grandchildren Frankie and Lydia Dangelo, Kilynn, Mason and Lincoln Callear, and Oliva Peters, sister Leola Morris of Athens, Pa., sister-in-law Rachel Callear of Athens Twp., Pa., and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, Pa. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating.
