Gerald was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church, organized the men's group and served on various other boards within the church. He was known for making his turkey stuffing and coleslaw. Gerald also served on the American Red Cross board; He worked for the Blood Mobile and at various blood drives. He enjoyed his family, gardening and cooking.
He is predeceased by his siblings Clinton Callear, Alene Fraley, Evelyn Wurtenberg, Alta Rolfe, Lillian Burns, and Hattie Callear.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, with who he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 15, 2009. He is also survived by his children, Diane C. and James Sidey, Athens, Pa., Dale and Cindy Lu Callear, Athens, Pa.; grandchildren, Shawn and Carrie Sidey, Patrick and Kelli Sidey, and Erin Sidey Miller; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Connor Sidey and Abbie Jane Miller; siblings, Herethel Johnson, Waverly, N.Y., Elmer and Rachel Callear, Athens, Pa., Robert Callear, Athens, Pa., Leola Morris, Athens, Pa.; and brother-in-law Daryl Parks, Rome, Pa.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24 at the Athens United Methodist Church, Main Street, Athens, Pa., with Rev. Martin Bovee officiating.Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa.
