He was born on February 5, 1923 in Athens, PA, the son of the late Robert C. and Hattie May Callear.
Elmer graduated from Athens Area High School. He worked as a Shipping Clerk at Ingersoll Rand, Athens for 43 years, prior to his retiring. Elmer enjoyed gardening and hunting. Elmer had his pacemaker placed on the opposite side so he could still hunt and got a buck that year. Elmer believed as his dad did; if you take care of what you have you won't need as much. He was a lifetime member of the Athens United Methodist Church. Elmer attained the honor of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Penny Promenaders for 32 years.
He is predeceased by his siblings Herethel Johnson, Clinton Callear, Gerald Callear, Alene Farley, Evelyn Wurtenburg, Alta Rolfe, Lillian Burns, and Hattie Callear.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 70 years Rachel Callear at home, children Ronald and Roxann Callear of Milan, PA, Kenneth and Janine Callear of Athens, PA, Keith Callear of Sayre, PA, Richard and Nancy Callear of Monroeton, PA, and Lorieta and Wm. Dennis Gallick of Benton, PA, grandchildren Jud, Nate, Eric, Amy, Mary, Tara, and Michelle, 12 great-grandchildren, sister Leola Morris of Athens, PA, brother Robert Callear of Athens, PA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Monday, November 10, 2014 from 11am-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
