Amanda Jane Caudell is the daughter of Abel C. Caudell; her mother's name was Ann. She was born March 27, 1840 in Georgia. In the 1850 census she is listed with the family in Poinsett County, Arkansas. However, the family soon settled in Johnson County, Arkansas, and her father went in the gold rush to California, as well.
On October 20, 1855 "in the presence of parents and friends" she was married to John Austin Hunt. In a 1907 sworn affidavit Rev. Lindsey F. Patterson said "when a small boy I remember very distinctly about the wedding ... because I thought at the time that it was something terrible for one of our neighbor's daughters to marry an Irishman."
Amanda Jane Caudell Hunt bore 14 children, one of whom died as an infant and one died at age 17. Her son John was born in 1864 just a month after the family was robbed and burned out by Civil War marauders. After the war the family moved from Arkansas and settled in the Choctaw Nation of Indian Territory where they were to remain.
John Austin Hunt died in 1906; Amanda Jane lived with family members until her death May 27, 1919.
