Although always known as Oscar, his name in the Family Bible is given as Coosiosco, which is said to come from the Choctaw language.
The extended Hunt family operated farms and businesses in what is now LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and they were very active in church affairs. The corner stone of the Mountain View church in Glendale bears the name of John Hunt as one of the founders.
In 1895, when many of the Hunt family moved to Pittsburg County, Oscar remained in LeFlore County. In the 1900 census, Oscar, 21 years old, was living in the household of his sister, Louisa, and working the farm with his brother-in-law Alvey Williams.
Oscar married Janie Polk about 1905, and they made their home in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. They were to have nine children, all born in Pittsburg County.
Census records show that the family of Oscar and Janie lived in Haileyville and Hartshorne, Oklahoma, until after 1930. The family then moved near McAlester and also lived a short while at Talihina before settling in Wister, Oklahoma, in the 1940s.
Oscar was a businessman in Hartshorne for many years, but he loved the land and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
