Harry Terpstra the son of Jake and Flora (DeYoung) Terpstra was born January 25, 1920, in Oaketon, SD. He grew up living in South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, Washington and Minnesota.
On September 3, 1942, Harry was united in marriage to Gladys Adreanna Brinkhuis in Rock Valley, IA. The couple worked on a farm near Fairview, SD from 1942 to 1946, then moved to a farm near Hudson, SD. In December of 1955, Harry and Gladys purchased a farm one mile west of Brooten. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Harry loved farming, after he retired from farming for himself; Harry helped local farmers with their harvest. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo with Gladys and in their later years, they enjoyed going on bus trips. The couple shared 61 years of marriage before Gladys passed away on February 3, 2004. After Gladys died, Harry moved into Parkview Court in Glenwood and when he needed further assistance, he moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village. He passed away on November 5, 2012 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Harry will be remembered for his generosity, always willing to help others and his sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Larry (Nancy) Terpstra of Brooten, Anna (Gene) Beekman of Blomkest, MN, Barbara (Calvin) Hanson of Brooten, David (Kathy) Terpstra of Brooten, and Donna (Harvey) Miner of Milbank, SD; grandchildren, Jolee (Dean) Boysen, Thomas (Kelly) Beekman, Bonnie (Peter) Swenson, Jeremy Beekman, Benjamin (Jessi) Beekman, Eric (Kimberly) Hanson, Jan Roelike, Lisa (Eric) Timmerman, Laura Loose, Angela Miner and Donovan (Sarah) Miner; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jake (Carol) Terpstra of Holland, MI and Pete (Ruth) Terpstra of Zeeland, MI; sisters, Ada Terpstra and Agnes Harmelink both of Sioux Center, IA; sister-in-law, Nella Terpstra of Rock Valley, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys Terpstra; brothers, David, John, Clarence, Agner and Floyd; sister, Florence Teunissen and 2 sisters in infancy.
