Born May 29, 1927 in Menallen Township, Adams County, he was the son of the late John W. and Alice (Holverter) Black. Boe's wife of nearly 64 years, Ruth E. (Orner) died October of 2007. He is also predeceased by his daughter, Joanne R. Slonaker who died August of 2011 and his siblings, brother, Lawrence E. Black, and sisters, Josephine Riley and Mary Davis.
Surviving is a son, William E. Black (wife Pam) of Gettysburg; daughter, Barbara J. Mahoney (husband Gerald) of Wauchula, Fla.; and son-in-law, David Slonaker of Cross Fork, Pa. He is also survived by grandchildren, Timothy A. Cook of Aspers and Leah (Cook) Reider of Gettysburg; and four great-grandchildren, Laken Wiles, Landen Wiles, Sierra Cook and Kinsey Cook.
Boe was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving stateside in Bainbridge, Md. Boe retired in 2003 after having worked for over 30 years for Menallen Township as roadmaster and served several terms as a township supervisor. He also had worked in the furniture industry as a woodcarver having been employed at Ogden & Decker, Bendersville, Adams County Novelty Company, Gettysburg, and Guldens Furniture Company, Aspers.
Prior to Boe's illness, he enjoyed being outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Shoshonean Rod & Gun Club, Aspers; C & A Hunting Camp, Bear Track Hunting Club, and Sterling Run Sportsman's Inc., Cameron County, Pennsylvania and various other hunting, fishing, or sportsman's associations. Boe had also enjoyed playing cards belonging to several clubs playing Pitch, Poker, and Pinochle.
Professional services entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home Inc., 111 South Main St., Bendersville. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 2008 Wenksville Road, Biglerville, with Pastor Marty Young officiating.
