Mrs. Sarah Dies After Picnic--
Fatal Heart Attack Follows Injury To Ankle---
RETURNING HOME---
Passes Away in Doctor's Office Early On Sunday---
An overturned ankle is believed by friends to have hurried the death of Mrs. Sarah May Uhrich Bender, of 1508 Walnut Street, who died about 1:00 o'clock Sunday morning at the office of Ddr. J.D. Kerr, at 812 Chestnut St.
It was stated that she suffered for some years past from a heart condition. Although it seemed acute at times she ws able to be about and quite active generally.
On Saturday she attended the Fontana Union Sunday School picnic with relatives at Hershey, and returned with the last car. She alighted from the car at Twelfth and Oak Streets, and started for home in the company of a young daughter, Katherine (correct to Darlene), and her sister-in-law, Miss Cora Bender. In going down the hill she made a mis-step and thus overturned her ankle. She suffered such pain that she sank to the ground but quickly recovered and then managed to limp to the Thirteenth and Walnut Streets intersection when she collapsed completely.
Mrs. Irene Anspach and a daughter, Catherine, and Mrs. Harry Felty, neighbors, chanced to pass that point with an auto about that time and they conveyed the injured lady and Miss Bender to Dr. Kerr's office. The physician noted that Mrs. Bender was suffering severely from nervous shock when she passed away from a heart attack. Acting Coroner Walter H. Brubaker stated that the facts in the case are so apparent that no inquest will b necessary.
Mrs. Uhrich (corrected to Bender), who was aged 46 years, was widely known. She was a member of Tabor Evangelical Reformed Church. In addition to her husband, Jacob Bender, she leaves the following children; Cyril, of Brooklyn, NY, Victor, of Elmira, NY, Luella, Katherine, George, Darlene and Ronald, all at home.
