Larry J. Porter
Larry James Porter, age 58, of 1656 Kansas Avenue, Baxter Springs, Kan., passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at 10:44 p.m. Freeman Hospital West after an apparent heart attack at home.
Larry was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Joplin, Mo., to the union of Walter James and Faye Ruth (Ingle) Porter.
They both have preceded him in death.
Larry has been a lifelong area resident and graduated from Riverton High School.
He was presently employed as maintenance supervisor at PCS Phosphates, Inc., of Joplin, formerly Farmers Chemical Co., where he has worked for over 30 years.
He married Cheryl A. Bryant Oct. 7, 1985, in Miami, Okla. She survives at the home.
Also surviving are one son, Mike Davis, of Cardin, Okla.; three daughters, Gina L. Perry, of Miami, Okla., Jama L. Haag, of Baxter Springs and Michelle Stevens, of Scammon, Kan.; two brothers, Jim Porter, of Waco, Mo., and David Porter, of Galena, Kan.; two sisters, Patricia Neal, of rural Galena and Alice Girton, of Galena; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 6, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Mitchell officiating.
Interment will be in Lowell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
