Wilton E. "Bingo" Crotz, 84, of West Peoria passed away at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Heddington Oaks.
Bingo was born on May 21, 1930, in Chillicothe, the son of Earl E. and Betty (Reed) Crotz. He married Eileen F. Cannon on September 9, 1950, in Newport, Ky. She died January 31, 1999.
He is survived by two sons, Tom (Patty) of West Peoria and Dan of Marquette Heights; two daughters, Colleen Cole of East Peoria and Pam (Joe) Romolo of Peoria; ten grandchildren, Stacy Adams, Andrew, Casey, Patrick and Corey Crotz, Adam and Alex Cole, and Kristin, Luke and Nick Romolo; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Abbey, Cheryl Brown and Marilyn Wilkins; and one brother, Kenneth Crotz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rosalie Cleeton; and two brothers, James and Charles Crotz.
Bingo was a self-employed businessman who owned and operated Crotz Delivery Service for more than 30 years.
He was renowned throughout Illinois as an outstanding football and basketball official, earning an Illinois High School Assoc. Service Award for 44 years of continued service in officiating to the high schools of Illinois. He was very proud to have worked the state football championship games in 1975, 1976 and 1989, as well as the basketball championship game in 1975. He was inducted into the Peoria Officials Assoc. Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Assoc. in 2005.
Bingo played 3rd base for the West Palmer House softball team, which won the State of Illinois softball fast pitch championship in 1962. He coached for the West Peoria Little League for several years. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Council #4333 and the Independent Sports Club of Peoria.
He loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was a strong, outgoing, positive man who didn't know a stranger.
A private burial service will be held Monday at Blue Ridge Cemetery in rural Chillicothe.
