J.W. MATHIS OF ATLANTA DEAD
J.W. Mathis of Atlanta passed away last Friday. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church in Atlanta Sunday afternoon with burial in the Steele Cemetery.
James William Mathis, son of Sharp and Izzie Mathis, was born Mar. 5, 1877. On Sept. 18, 1901 he was married to Lettie Hatfield. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters. They are as follows, Mrs. Orva Faught of Anabel, Mrs. Anna Mae Gipson of Pueblo, Colorado, Famis of Rockford, Illinois, Clarence and Junior of Macon. Ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Sims, also survive. His father, mother, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Mathis united with the Primitive Baptist Church on Aug. 10, 1918.
He departed this life Feb. 22, 1949 at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 10 days.
