"Sang" was the son of James Richardson and Cora Richardson. He was educated in the Houston County School System. He was a Ordained Minister. He was nicknamed "Sang" because of his singing ability for which he was well known throughout middle Georgia.

He was married to Sadie Walker Richardson, they had 9 children.

Children: Cora Lee Richardson Milton, Rayfield Richardson, James Richardson III, Mathew "June" Richardson, Lenora Richardson Woodard, S.B. Richardson, Claudie B. Richardson, Bennie Richardson and Essie Lee Richardson Johnson.
