Lynn Haslem; November 13, 1930 - March 24, 2014.
Our beloved father, Lynn Haslem, 83, passed away, or in his words, "graduated" on Mar. 24, 2014 in Roosevelt, Ut. into the waiting arms of his sweetheart and other family members joyously waiting to greet him.
Lynn was born on Nov. 13, 1930 in Bennett, Ut. in a 2 room log home to John Henry and Rebecca Alice Hartle Haslem, the ninth of twelve children. He was loved and learned to work hard and long. He excelled in track, boxing, speech and music at Alterra High School. He faithfully served as a missionary in the East Central States Mission.
He married his eternal sweetheart Joan Hunt, on July 18, 1952, in the Manti temple. This happy union was blessed with four children. He was a devoted husband and father. Theirs was a home of love, equal love for all. Family and the gospel was most important. He excelled professionally, he was a born leader, but also loved his ranch, cattle and gardening.
Lynn completed his B.S. at BYU and taught 6th grade at Todd Elementary. He completed his Masters and Ed. Adm. Specialist at USU. and became principal at Neola Elementary, Vernal Jr. High and Superintendent of Schools in Beaver, Ut. for 17 years. He earned his doctoral degree in education administration at BYU. Dr. Haslem was respected and loved by the students, faculty, parents and communities in which he served.
After he retired he went back to ranching and served on the Utah State School Board. He also served on the UBET telephone and UBMC hospital boards in Roosevelt.
They lived at various Utah locations including Blanding, Roosevelt, Beaver, Santa Clara and Altonah.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully fulfilled his callings including Scoutmaster, High Councilor, Bishop and Ordinance Worker. As a family they served in the Whiterocks Indian mission. As a couple they fulfilled a lifelong dream as they served a mission at the Hill Cumorah visitors center.
He lovingly supported and cared for Joan with her many health challenges until her death on June 15, 2003. He also had his own health challenges with blindness being the most recent. He kept a positive attitude and sense of humor to the end. He was a great man. A man of faith, leadership, determination and hard work. Of him it can be said; "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen and Rhea, brothers Kenneth, Niles, Dean, Glen, Frank and granddaughter Mesha Casper.
Survived by children; John (Jennette) St. George, Ut., Joe (Johy) Altonah, Ut., Tonya (Rick) Sandy, Ut., Jim (Jill) Cedar City, Ut., twenty grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren, sister and brothers; Ed(husband of Rhea), Marie, Acel, Verl (Leah) and Myron (Ruth), many nieces and nephews, large extended family and many friends.
Interment and graveside services will be Sat. Mar. 29 at 1 pm at the Blanding Cemetery, Blanding, Ut.
