Albert F. Schmitmeyer, 92, formerly of 37 Hiawath Court, Versailles, died at 7:59 a.m. Aug. 20, 2005, at Versailles Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Minster, to Henry and Emma Thieman Schmitmeyer. On April 26, 1938, he married Clara K. Henke who died Nov. 22, 1996. Surviving are four sons, John (Rita) of Coldwater, Ted (Connie) of Versailles, Lester (Jane) of Fort Loramie, and the Rev. James of Cincinnati; two daughters, Alberta (Leroy) Pohl, West Chester, and Marian (Lowell) Homan, St. Rose; a brother, Fred (Alberta) of Minster; three sisters, Velma Wellman, Coldwater, Elsie Borgert, Minster, and Clara Schmiesing, McCartyville; a brother-in-law, Herman Hoying, Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Thelma Schmitmeyer, Minster; 24 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Henry and Leander; five sisters, Matilda Poeppelman, Henrietta Hoying, Leona Schmeider, Marie Holdheide and Rosa Enneking; and three grandchildren. He had been a farmer in the Fort Loramie and Versailles area. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, Fourth Degree and Third Degree Knights of Columbus, all of Versailles; a charter member of Walkup Country Club, Fort Loramie, and a past member of Farm Bureau. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie, the Rev. James Schmitmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Calling is 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster. Contributions can be made to Versailles Rescue Squad or State of the Heart Home Health & Hospice.
