Lovica (Quinton) Blackwood, 99, of McAlester, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at a local nursing center. Lovica was born February 5, 1917 to James Nimrod and Ellen (Floyd) Quinton in Quinton, she was the first of nine siblings. She married Johnie Houston Blackwood July 16, 1938 in Quinton. They made their home in California before moving to Pittsburg County in 1962. Lovica and Johnie owned and operated a cattle ranch until retiring in 1976, and then moved to McAlester. Lovica loved gardening, canning, and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Ellen Quinton; her husband: Johnie H. Blackwood on November 3, 1995; daughters: Willie Toy, Rose Lackey; granddaughter: Michelle Edwards; grandson: Darren Barnes; sisters: Elizabeth Anderson, Lillie Henson, Ethel Ashmore, Alice Shepley, Mary Palmer; and brothers: Jim Quinton and Willis Quinton. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. J.T. Carnell. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
