Robert F. "Shorty" Gage, 84, died June 30, 2001 at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg. He was born May 28, 1917 in Ellensburg to Robert F. and Buena (Riggs) Gage.
A lifelong resident, Shorty was an Ellensburg police officer for 1942 to 1949. He worked 11 years for Busby Livestock. He was an excellent bartender and worked at the Palace, Elks, Eagles, and Moose. He was also a well-known sheep shearer.
A member of the Eagles and Elks lodges, Shorty married Marceine E. Crawford on June 4, 1938 in Ellensburg. Shorty was also the past president of the Eagles and enjoyed hunting. The Gage family has been inducted into the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame.
Shorty was proceeded in death by his two sisters, Tressa Graham and Betty Churchill; brother, Harrell and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marceine at their home; son, Jerry Gage of The Dalles, Oregon; daughter, Shirley Johnson of Poulsbo; sisters, Esther Van DeGrift of Sedro Wooley and Ellen Crawford of Kittitas; brothers, Clifford and Seth of Ellensburg and Fred of Tonasket; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 1 to 4 p.m., July 4 and 9 a.m. to noon, July 6 at Steward and Williams. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., July 5, at IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Disease Research or the charity of your choice.
