On 26 April 1900 her father, the 27 years old farm hand Gerrit van Bruggenn (born in the city of Kampen, located on the southestern banks of the River IJssel, in the northwestern part of the Dutch northeastern province Overijssel) married on 26 April 1900 in the country village of IJsselmuiden, Overijssel the five years younger Hendrikje Kamphof, born in the village of IJsselmuiden, located just northwest of Kampen, on the other side of the IJssel River.

On 8 July 1931 Gertrude Van Bruggen and her husband Harold Boom were living in Greenland Township, Barnes County, when their son Lloyd Harold Boom was born.

In April 1940 Gertrude (34, Holland), her husband Harold Boom (35, farmer), their children Lloyd (8, North Dakota), Donald (6, North Dakota) and Joan Harriet (0, North Dakota) were living at a rented farm in still Greenland Township, Barnes County, North Dakota. They lived in 1935 at the same farm.

Her husband Harold Boom died in December 1966 at the age of 62 years in Barnes County, North Dakota. Widow Gertrude died in September 2004 at the age of 99 years in St. Rose Care Center in the city of LaMoure, the seat of LaMoure County, neighboring south of Barnes County, North Dakota.
