Ben Van Bruggen, 82, of Litchville, ND longtime Marion community farmer, died as a result of injuries received in a train-pickup accident in Litchville on Thursday afternoon, January 23, 1986.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, at the North Marion Reformed Church with Rev. Irwin Vander Leeuwin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was born April 3, 1903 in Kampen, Holland, the son of Gerrit and Henrietta Van Bruggen. The family came to America in 1906 to the Litchville community. He was
baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Church. The family later moved to Manns Township, Stutsman County where he received his education.
He married Gertrude Lengkeek on November 27, 1925 in Jamestown. They farmed in Manns Township until 1939 when they moved to Meadow Lake Township, Barnes County.
They lived there until retiring and moving into Litchville in 1983. He was a member of the North Marion Reformed Church. He had served on the boards of the Clark City School, Meadow Lake Township and the Marion Equity Elevator.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gerald of Marion; two daughter, Arlene, (Mrs. Harold) Vahl of Edgerton, Mn; and Darlene (Mrs. Harvey) Kluvers of Litchville; a brother, William, Marion, ND; two sisters, Gertrude Boom of Marion and Alida Miedema of Alamo, Tex.; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
