Funeral services were held for Henry Van Bruggen, Sr., Friday afternoon with services at 1:30 at the G. H. Van Bruggen home at the Litchville Reformed Church at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. G. Wolbrink officiating.

Two quartet numbers were sung “There is No Disappointment in Heaven” and “Near to the Heart of God” by Mrs. G. Wolbrink, Mrs. B. Kluvers, Mrs. C. Flach and Mrs. M. Norgaard. Psalm 68 verse 10 was sung by the audience. Pallbearers were: Peter Verduin, Sr., Henry Ten Pas, Herman Vaders, Sr., Bert VanderBusch, Ralph Kluvers and Ben Kluvers. Interment was made in the Litchville Cemetery.

Henry Van Bruggen, Sr., of Rosebud township passed away in the Mercy Hospital at Valley City on Wednesday morning at 12:15 at the age of 82 years and 3 months. Death was the result of a heart condition.

Mr. Van Bruggen was born in Kampen, Holland on May 14, 1868. In his native land on April 12, 1894, he was united in marriage to Annie Van Dieren. The couple continued to live there for another 12 years. On March 10, 1906, they came to the United States to establish a home for themselves and their children, arriving in this country and coming directly to Litchville where they settled on a farm in this community. First they rented and later purchased a farm north of town which he still owned at the time of his death. He became a charter member of the Litchville Reformed Church.

Left to mourn his passing are four children: Gerrit H. Van Bruggen of Litchville; Mrs. H. J. Vahl (Gertie) of Colton, S.Dak.; Peter Van Bruggen, Litchville; Mrs. Axel Formo (Jennie) of Litchville and twelve grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: his wife Annie; daughter, Mrs. Thos. Boom (Alice); one son six years old, and an infant daughter.

Surviving brothers are: William and Gerrit John of Sheldon, Iowa; Herman and W. J. of the Netherlands. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral service were: Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Vahl, Mr. and Mrs. William Van Bruggen, Gerrit John Van Bruggen, W. Roosevelt, Mr. and Mrs. William Wiekamp, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nieuwendorp, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Int Veld, W. A. Van Werven, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Van Bruggen, Mr. and Mrs. Art Van Asselt, Thomas Boom.
