Funeral Held Tuesday at local Reformed Church
Mrs. Henry Van Bruggen, Sr., of Rosebud township, died at the Mercy hospital in Valley City last Friday December 17, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 26 days. Death was the result of a heart ailment and dropsy with which ailments she has been a sufferer for several years.
Mrs. Van Bruggen, nee Annie Van Deiren, was born in Kampen , Holland, on September 21, 1866. On April 12, 1894, she was united in marriage to Henry Van Bruggen in her native Holland, and the couple continued to live there for another twelve years, or until March 10, 1906, when they heeded the beckoning finger of opportunity and came to the United States to establish a home for themselves and their children. Arriving in this country, they came directly to Litchville and settled on a farm in this community. They first were renters and then, years ago, bought the former Chas. Olson place in Rosebud township which has been the family home ever since.
Left to mourn the death of a good wife and mother are Mr. Van Bruggen and five children, namely, Gerrit Van Bruggen, Litchville; Mrs. H. J. Vahl (Gertie), od Colton, S. D.; Peter Van Bruggen, Litchville; Mrs. Thomas Boom (Alice), Litchville; and Mrs. Axel Formo (Jennie), Litchville. One son, aged six years, and an infant daughter preceded her in death. Surviving also are eleven grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon of this week, with services at the home at 1:15 o'clock and the Litchville Reformed Church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. G. Rezelman officiated, and three hymns in vocal duet arrangement were sung by Mrs. Rezelman and Miss Mae Rienstra. Pall bearers were G. Bastienet, Henry Van Bruggen, Jr., Leonard Boom, Bert Vanderbusch, Herman Vaders, Sr., and Peter Verduin, Sr. and interment was made in the Litchville cemetery three miles straight south of town.
Those from a distance for the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Vahl, of Colton, S.D., son-in-law and daughter of the deceased.
Mrs. Van Bruggen was one of the charter members of the Litchville Reformed Church and her faith in her religion and her Maker never wavered.
The bereaved family has the sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
