Lloyd W. Roberts, 81, of Kingsport, went to be in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday (July 15, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Lloyd was a self-employed concrete finisher and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II. He was loved and cared for by members of the Holy Mountain Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Monnie Roberts; a son, Elder Eddie Roberts; and two grandchildren, Toshia and Joshua Roberts.
He is survived by his two daughters, Joyce Mellons and husband, Eddie, of Yuma, Va., Clara Mullins and husband Gary, of Church Hill; five sons, Charles Roberts, Jeff Roberts, and David Roberts and wife Caroline, of the home, Steve Roberts and wife Wilma, of Kingsport, Kenny Roberts and wife Shirley, of Mount Carmel; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kyle Falin and Pastor Jerry Musick officiating.
Music will be provided by the Holy Mountain Baptist Church Choir.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 performing the rits. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nick Roberts, Charles Mellons, Jerry Rhoton, Lloyd Mellons, Josh Roberts, and Chad Roberts.

Lloyd was the son of Henry and Mattie Bloomer Roberts. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Simon Roberts (1975) and Kay Roberts (1988); seven sisters, Virgie Delp (1954), Emogene Manring (1957), Nancy Trent (1966), Mary Huckleby (1969), Bertie Wilkey (1992), Edna Mae Crumley (1999), & Audrey Macum (May, 2005).
