Samuel Francis Aurand was born in Lewistown, Pa., Dec. 18, 1859, and passed away at the home of his son at Moorcroft, Wyo., Nov. 6, 1949. He had lived nearly 90 years, lacking 1 month and 12 days.
Mr. Aurand spent his early years in the east and was married in his home town Nov. 3, 1881 to Flora Jane Cupples. After about two years they, like many other hearty pioneers, left the east and settled in Kansas south of Hardy, Neb. Seven children, four girls and three boys, were born to these early settlers. Only one of them, Henry Harrison, preceeded (sic) his father in death. These still living are Florence Akey, Grey Bull, Wyo.; Edith Conzelman, Santa Ana, Calif.; Bertha Hurley and Catherine Townsend of Hardy; Vernon of Drexel, Mo., and John, Moorcroft, Wyo.
Mr. Aurand, a farmer, spent a quarter of a century south of the river within a few miles of Hardy. During this period he became widely known and made many friends in that and surrounding territory. In 1909 he went to Moorcroft, Wyo., where he spent nearly half a century in the home of his son, John, whose wife succeeded beautifully in making their home one of comfort and happiness for her father-in-law. During these years in Wyoming Mr. Aurand endeared himself to many people who, together with friends here, his six children, 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and other relatives mourn his death.
Services were held Thursday afternoon in Scott's Chapel in Hardy, conducted by Rev. John R. Bucknell of Franklin with interment following in the Rose Mound cemetery (sic).
