Florence (Aurand) Akey with her husband, David Kindle Akey moved from Ohio, via Kansas to Wyoming. They were Crook County Pioneers, living on Throne Divide, where they built a small log house and barn within sight of Devil's Tower. They were original Wyo homesteaders, who successfully proved up on their parcel of land granted by the US Government.
Florence and David raised four children on the Thorne Divide home place. After David died, Flora relocated to Greybull Wyoming to be near her youngest daughter, Catherine (Akey) Mace.
Flora was an LPN nurse who maintained a small lodging / nursing facility for retirees within her Greybull home until her retirement. In later years, she devoted her time to her gardens and to an extensive circle of friends, family and acquaintances, exchanging letters written in exceptionally beautiful cursive lettering. She died at the age of 84 and was buried next to David Kindle Akey in the Moorcroft Cemetery in Wyoming.
