Grandma was a wonderful cook and it seemed that's what she wanted to do in her life. Once Grandpa brought home a 'chef' named Monroe, who wore a dinky little white beret and cooked dainty little dishes. Mr. Joe wanted Grandma to be able to relax and not have so much cooking to do. She was not very happy about the situation and was not herself until the 'chef' was gone. I don't think Grandpa was either because Monroe cooked nothing like Grandma with his fancy little dishes. On Sundays she wanted all her family there to eat and she would ask what we would like to have the next Sunday for dinner...I always wanted white beans and biscuits...I would love to have some now! Mama would get us up early on Sunday morning to go to church at South Fork Friends Church...it was about 17 miles away and seemed like a trip across county to us kids. After 'preaching' we would go to Grandma Wright's to eat dinner and after the dishes had been washed and put away, Grandma and her three daughters would go into the den, were Grandpa was watching the football game, for some Sunday afternoon fellowship. There is a picture of Grandma enjoying herself and NOT shown are the three daughters doing the same thing. She would always have an assortment of pies and a cake or two each Sunday and we would always enjoy a piece of our favorite before we went home.

Grandma was an excellent quilter and usually was working on one most of the time. She made the most beautiful quilts you would ever want to see...and gave them away. She once made a quilt for the Harvest Festival at South Fork Church to raise money for a new church building and anyone who wanted their names on it would give a small donation and she would embroider their names on it. It was full of names and when it was auctioned off at the festival, her brother Delbert Hadley was the man who was willing to give a small fortune for it.
