Neighbors, who were summoned by her calls for help, worked frantically to extinguish the blazes but most of her clothing was burned before the fire could be put out. She was taken to St. Edward's Hospital in New Albany shortly after the accident, but died late Thursday afternoon.
She was born near Curby in Crawford County on October 7, 1866, to the late Henry Samuel & Mariah W. Landiss Batman. She was married to James Thomas (Tom) Kelly, in Crawford County on May 7, 1889. To this union two daughters, were born, one died in infancy and the other, Ella May Kelly died November 25, 1920. Mr. Kelly also preceded his wife in death September 8, 1939.
Survivors included two sisters, Mrs. Alice Jane Coleman, of Marengo, and Mrs. Decorah Belle Lambdin, of Oakley, Calf.; three brothers, Alpheus James Batman, of Marengo; John Kelly and Carter Perry Batman, both of Curby; a step-mother, Mrs. Clara Ann Batman, of Cannelton and a number of other relatives.
