Guymon man killed in car wreck

Well-known Guymon businessman, Louis Edward Behne died as the result of a two vehicle accident Thursday afternoon.

Behne, 65, was killed when has 1982 Chevrolet 1/2 ton El Camino was struck broadside by a 1988 Ford pickup, driven by Jerrod D. Harbour, 22, Rolla, Kan, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Behne was pronounced dead of head injuries at Henson's Funeral Home in Guymon by Dr J. C. Hallford, medical examiner.

Harbour was taken to Cimarron Memorial Hospital in Boise City and transferred to Northwest Texas Hospital with neck injuries. He is listed in satisfactory condition.

The accident occurred at 4:40 p.m. three miles south and 11 miles east of Keyes on U.S. Highway 64 in Cimarron County. The OHP said the pickup was southbound on a county road, ran a stop sign and hit the El Camino which was eastbound on State Highway 64.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Don Hagelberg of the Boise City Detachment of the OHP.

Louis E. Behne, 65, 1425 Rimrock, Guymon, well-known Guymon general contractor and president of Behne Construction Company died Thursday afternoon as a result of an automobile accident.

The son of Edward and Edna Behne, he was born Nov. 22, 1923 at Guymon . He married Iola Akers Oct. 31, 1942 at Hooker.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the US. Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, he was employed with Frances Construction Company. He became a partner in the late 1940's, later bought the firm and established Behne Construction Company in 1952. He served as president.

Active in church affairs, Behne was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Iola of the home; two daughters, Lou Watkins and Kathy George of Guymon; three sons, Ted Behne and Terry Behne of Guymon and Jerry Behne of Flagstaff, Ariz.; his mother Edna Behne of Guymon; four sisters, Pearl Green and Dorothy Farrington of Guymon, Mary Brune of Optima and Dora Sales of Kingsland, Texas; Three brothers, Bob Behne and Jim Behne of Guymon and Albert Behne of Hooker, and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Church of the Nazarene in Guymon, Saturday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. Dr. Terrell Earnest, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Henson Funeral Home of Guymon.
