Edna Behne, 102, passed away Wednesday evening, December 18th, 2002 at the Dunaway Manor, Guymon, Okla.
The daughter of Maggie Jane (Spragges) and Virgil R. Hockett, she was born June 22, 1900, in Texas County, Okla . The Hockett family pioneered in a half-dugout on the Poney creek near Optima and Edna attended country schools.
She was united in marriage to Edward L. Behne on September 14, 1918, in Guymon. The Behne's made their home north of Guymon and later moved into Guymon in 1940 . Mrs. Behne was employed at the Guymon Hospital from 1962 to 1976 and cared for the newborns in the nursery. Mr. Behne passed away December 24, 1961.
Edna was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Dorcas Society
She was honored as Bi-Centennial Pioneer Day Queen in 1976.
Survivors include two daughter, Dora Sales of Kingland, Texas, and Dorothy and husband David Farrington of Guymon; three sons, Albert Behne of Hooker, Okla., Robert R. Behne and wife, Ramona, and Jim Behne and wife, Charlotte, all of Guymon; two sisters, Dorothy Overall of Guymon and Ethel Pitts of Dayton Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; two daughter, Pearl Green and Mary Brune; a son, Louis E. Behne; four grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Lola Reust and brother Earl Hockett
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday afternoon, December 21, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Guymon Church of the Nazarene with Rev Terry Armstrong, pastor officiating
Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Memorials may be give to the Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at Churcch or Henson-Novak Funeral Home.
