Edward L. Parker, Jr. was one of 11 children born to Edward L. Parker, Sr. and Catherine Byrne Parker.

In birth order: Margaret, Joan, Edward, Jr., Catherine, Robert, Paul, Virginia, Philip, Mary Anne, Geraldine, and Richard.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War 2, and three years after. He was an electrician's mate on the U.S.S. Topeka (CL-67) at least at the end of his service. That ship was a 10,000 ton, 608 foot light cruiser, which entered service in 1945. The crew was 1,410 sailors. The ship's main area of service through 1948 was in the general area of Japan.

Shortly before or after he was released from service, Ed married Rosemary Cassia Burgan on June 27, 1948 in Compton, California. In Los Angeles County, the couple had four children; Edward L., III, Pamela K., Janice D., and David F.

Ed had a career working for the Shell Oil Company.

On October 19, 1984, Ed married the twice divorced Barbara Dianne Stefanowski Peterson Dayon in Hemet, California.

Edward Parker

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward L. Parker, 71, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Hemet. He died Saturday of cancer at his home in Hemet.

Friends may call from 1 until 5 p.m. today at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet.

Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

Mr. Parker, who was born in Chicago, lived in Hemet 12 years. He was an operations foreman for Shell Oil Co. for 29 years until he retired.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until he was discharged as electrician's mate first class in 1948.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Pamela Portolan and Janice George, both of Long Beach; two sons, Edward III of Redlands and David Parker of Corona; a stepdaughter, Debra Bowman of Temecula; a stepson, Daniel Dayton of Temecula; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, Phillip of Rio Rancho, N. M., Paul of Chicago and Richard of Cerritos; and five sisters, Virginia Surma of Rio Rancho and Geri Schmit, Joan Schmidt, Catherine Schmidt and Mary Anne Bley, all of Belgium, Wis.
