George William Swygert, 70, of Leesville, retired carpenter, died at a Columbia hospital at 1:40 Tuesday afternoon after a several weeks illness. Mr. Swygert was born in Lexington County, son of the alte Enoch and Cornelia Adams Swygert and spent all his life in the Ridge Road community where he was born. He was a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Cattie Caughman Swygert of Leesville; four daughters, Mrs. Nell Hyler of Gilbert, Mrs. Alma Oxner of Leesville, Mrs. Jane Cromer of Lexington, and Mrs. Martha Taylor of Lexington; six sons, Verley Swygert, Sr., of Graniteville, Carl Swygert of Leesville, the Rev. Robert Swygert of Chapin, and Marvin, Melvin and Deward Swygert of Leesville; two sisters, Mrs. Lila Langford of Greenville and Mrs. Minnie Smith of Gilbert; two brothers, Yoder and Johnny Swygert, both of Leesville, and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Cedar Grove Lutheran Church by the Rev. Miles T. Cullum. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Verley Swygert, Jr., Wilford Swygert, Charles Swygert, Wyman Hyler, Lynwood Hyler, Dennie Swygert, Truesdale Swygert and Gerrald Swygert.
