Mr. Swygert was born in Lexington County, a son of the late E. Z. and Cornelius Adams Swygert.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher, secretary-treasurer on the church council and numerous other committees.
Survivors include two sons, V. L. of Gilbert and the Rev. L. L. Swygert of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Black of Leesville; one brothers, John Z. Swygert of Leesville; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Gilbert and Mrs. Lilla Langford of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday from Cedar Grove Lutheran Church by the Rev. Miles T. Cullum, assisted by the Rev. J. L. Drafts.
Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
