NEWVILLE - Walter W. Fickes, 77, and Martha Ellen Fickes, 76, of North High Street died Saturday in Carlisle as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was president of the Fickes Silo Co. of Newville, which he founded in 1954. He was an Army veteran of World War II and past president and vice president and a member of the board of directors of First National Bank of Newville. He was a school board member for more than 12 years in the Big Spring School District.
He was a member of First Church of God, American Legion Post 421, Big Spring Lodge F&AM, Zembo Temple and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. He was a life member of Newville Friendship Hose Company No. 1 and a charter member of the Newville Lions Club.
She was bookkeeper and secretary for the Fickes Silo Co. and a member and treasurer of First Church of God. She also was a member of the WCSC and a member and past worthy matron of Oswald Taylor Chapter 540, Order of Eastern Star, Newville.
Surviving are a son, Walter M. of Newville, and two grandsons, Walter James Fickes and Bradley Edward Fickes, both of Newville.
Mr. Fickes also is survived by five sisters, Edna Lehman of Columbia, Alma Krugh of Hagerstown, Md., and Hazel Harvey, Helen Wagner and Evelyn Hoover, all of Newville; a brother, D. Lee Fickes of Newville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fickes also is survived by a sister, Edna Wagner of Newville; a brother, Ronald McDonald of Newville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in his church with the Rev. Lee Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Twp.
