Well Known Resident to be Buried at Scotch Ridge
Henry O. "Bud" DeVault, 84, well known resident of this vicinity, died in his home on the Cadiz pike three miles west of this city at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. He suffered a stroke nine weeks ago at Deep Cut while walking to his home after visiting friends here. His condition had been serious for ten days.
A farmer for many years he became a teamster in later life. For a number of years he was maintenance superintendent of township roads. He was born February 4, 1855 at Barton, the son of William and Mary Grover DeVault. He was a member of the First Methodist church and the Martins Ferry Elks lodge, which he visited almost daily until his illness. He walked to and from town seldom accepting a ride.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Bess M Coss, at home, Mrs. Geneva Sanders, and Clayton and Melvin DeVault of Martins Ferry, and these brothers and sisters: Moses and Charles DeVault, Cadiz pike; Frank and Clyde of Farmington; Mrs. Mattie Graham of Akron, Mrs. Mattie Tice of Martins Ferry and Mrs. Essie Martin of Urichsville. A granddaughter Mrs. Beryl Keenan made her home with him.
The body is at the Heslop funeral home where services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev William G Farmer, a relative, will officiate. Interment will be made in Scotch Ridge cemetery.
