Chester S. Jakubowski "died" April 24, 2001 when his beloved wife of 60 years Sophie Piela Jakubowski passed away. His earthly journey ended on Wednesday March 4th, 2009. Chester was 91 years of age. He was born in Syracuse to Alexander and Bertha Jakubowski and grew up on Richmond Ave. Chester was a WWII veteran having served in Italy, France and Africa. He received the European โ€“ African โ€“ Middle Eastern Service Medal. Chester and his brother Steven were featured in the local newspaper after having met each other by coincidence and spending Christmas together in Italy while serving in the US Army. Chester was employed by Sam Ehlman's Clothing in Syracuse, Wilson Foods then enlisted in the US Army and came back to work for Wilson Foods. He retired from Wilson Foods in 1980 after 41 years of service. Chester was a member of The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and its' Holy Name Society. He was a member of the St. Louis Athletic Club and bowled for many years in the old First Ward Bowling league and then the Sackett Tract Bowling league. He most recently bowled in the Thursday afternoon senior league at Solvay rec. He also loved to dance, golf and fish. In addition to his parents and his wife Chester is predeceased by his granddaughter Cindy Paczos, his sister's Francis Wisk, Cecilia Brutcher, Sophie Powers & Wanda Rhodes and his brothers Steven & Raymond. He is survived by Brian & Cindy Langdon (his nephew, niece and direct caregivers), his sisters, Regina Rubacha & Elizabeth (Homer) Langdon both of Syracuse, his Sisters in law Charlotte Przybyl of Syracuse & Dolores Hoyt of Georgetown, Texas. His Daughter Barbara Burris, Grandsons โ€“ Michael Paczos and Peter Paczos, and four greatโ€“grandchildren all of Syracuse. Several Nieces & Nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials be made โ€“ In Memory of Cindy Paczos โ€“ to Brian's Kids. The gifts can be sent directly to the Syracuse Fire Department Employees Federal credit union, P.O. Box 791, Syracuse, NY 13201. Memorials may also be made to The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Friends may call on the family Sunday from 5pm to 9pm at Hollis Funeral Home. Funeral Services: Monday at 8:30am at Hollis Funeral Home and 9:30am at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Chet will be Buried with Full Military Honors, beside his beloved wife Sophie Piela Jakubowski in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes.
