Ernest Marion Field was the first of six children born to John Andrew Field (1846-1883, son of Elswick Sherwood Field and Guilianna L. Lindsay) and his wife Mary Adeline Wilkinson (1846-1906, daughter of William R. Wilkinson and Mary Amanda DeWeese). He married Mary Rhetta Bell (1862-1947, daughter of Levi Bell and Mary Jane Van Pelt) on Feb. 29, 1888. They had the following children: Mary Bell Field (1898-1998, Mrs. Mason Goodman), Charles Neal Field (1891-1972), Fred Marion Field (1893-1969), Ernest Lamont Field (1895-1964), Boyce Ebeneezer Field (1897-1926), John Levi Field (1899-1963) and William Harold Field (1901-1973). Ernest was a prosperous farmer, a road and bridge builder, and building contractor. He also served as Justice of the Peace and Post Master at Coddle Creek. He died of typhoid fever at the age of 34.
