John Elswick Field was the fifth of six children born to John Andrew Field (1846-1883) and his wife Mary Adeline Wilkinson (1846-1906) of Cabarrus County, NC. He was living in Hudson, Caldwell Co., NC at the time of his mother's death in 1906. Soon thereafter he moved to Florida, along with two of his brothers, Charles Pressley Field (1872-1924) and Lewis Edgar Field (1882-1943).

John married Lillian Belle Shreve on 1 Oct. 1910. She was sister of Mabel Minerva Shreve (1883-1965) who had married John's brother Lewis on 11 May 1910. Lillian must have died young, as sometime around 1927, he married Marion Louise Davidson (1878-1960). She was a concert pianist. (I remember my mother saying that they had several grand pianos in their home.) I do not believe they had any children.
