Oscar Sherry, 91, Loretto, died Wednesday. He was born in Gallitzin RD, son of Pius and Anna Sherry. Surviving are six children: Dorothy Yartin, Ron, Mary Louise Trout, Nancy Herhei, Linda Noland and Debra Krug; 12 grandchildren; and three siblings: Alma Miller, Eleanor Biter and Modestus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Bruce); and seven siblings: Helen Weakland, Leo, Zita Boley, Thomas, infant Stella, Cora Packard and Rita Adams. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville.

LORETTO — SHERRY – Oscar, 91, Lincoln Road, Loretto, died June 27, 2012, at ARHS Altoona Hospital Campus. Born June 4, 1921, in Gallitzin R.D., son of the late Pius and Anna (Beiswenger) Sherry. Preceded in death by wife, the former Mary Bruce, on Feb. 13, 2006; grandsons, Michael Trout and Ronald Yartin Jr.; granddaughter, Lisa Baum; and brothers and sisters, Helen Weakland, Leo, Zita Boley, Thomas, infant sister, Stella, Cora Packard and Rita Adams. Survived by children, Dorothy Yartin (Norman Adams), Loretto R.D.; Ron (Tina Smithbower), Loretto R.D.; Mary Louise Trout (Keith), Sugar Run; Nancy Herhei (Tim), Loretto R.D.; Linda Noland (Steve), Cresson; and Debra Krug (Fred lll), Loretto R.D.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Brother of Alma Miller, St. Benedict; Eleanor Biter, Ebensburg; and Modestus "Dusty" (June Sheehan), Ebensburg. Also survived by devoted family friend, Ken Kelly, Lancaster; and numerous nieces and nephews. He worked in local coal mines for 13 years, and owned and operated a dairy farm for 40 years. Oscar enjoyed his beloved dog, Nikki, riding his John Deere, working in the yard and socializing with his many friends. Former social member of Ashville VFW and social member of Loretto and Cresson American Legion. Member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Donald Boslett, celebrant. Committal, St. Michael Cemetery, Loretto. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where vigil service will be held Friday afternoon.
