John M. Richard
Herkimer, Dec. 9.— The entire community was shocked yesterday afternoon when it was learned that John M. Richard, well known lumber merchant and old time political leader, bad passed away after a brief illness.
Death occurred at his home.
The deceased was born in he town of Caroga, Fulton county, September 28, 1856. but came to this county when a boy with his parents, the late John C. Richard and Henrietta Fisher.
The family settled in the old town of Wilmurt, now subdivided into Webb and Ohio.

In 1902 he moved to Herkimer and in the fall of 1903 was elected sheriff of the county.

In 1880 he was united in marriage with Miss Emily Mary Maheux of Morehouseville, who survives, also one son, William of Herkimer and three daughters.
