From the Petaluma Daily Courier, October 3, 1919:
"YOUNG LIFE IS CLAIMED BY DEATH
Death claimed James (sic - John) Brazil, a well known resident of Tomales, yesterday morning at the Cherry Hill sanitarium, where he had been removed earlier in the week in the hope that with special treatment, he would recover. He was seriously ill when he arrived at the sanitarium and his condition gradually grew worse. An operation was performed as a last hope.

About two months ago, the young rancher was gored by a cow on his ranch near Tomales and his illness dates back to that time. Born in Tomales, he would have reached his 16th birthday, had he lived until November 6th. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Brazil, prominent residents of Tomales, brother of Mrs. Mary Jason, this city; Lena, Lillian, Ida, Geraldine, Antone Jr., and Joseph Brazil of Tomales; grandson of Manuel Paula Sr., the pioneer ranch of Liberty district; nephew of John L., Joseph, Manuel, Harry, Antone, Frank, Minnie and Mary Paula; Mrs. Leete and Mrs. Rose.

The deceased had spent his brief life at the Brazil ranch in the Tomales district and was graduated from the Tomales schools. He was honored and respected by everyone who knew him. In the neighborhood of the Brazil home, his death has caused deep sorrow. The body has been removed to the Healey funeral parlors. Friends will extend the deepest sympathy to the bereaved family."

The Petaluma Daily Courier, October 5, 1919:
