"Johnson" was Mattie's actual middle name (information found in family Bible). It is perhaps "a family name" . . . which will require further research on my part.
She was the daughter of William Henry Watkins and Rebecca C. Barnes Watkins.
Mattie was only 16 years old when her mother Rebecca passed away.
She came from a large family which included the following siblings: Cyreena, Franklin, Myrtle, William, Mae (my husband's grandmother), Maggie (who died at age 13), Susan, Olive and Naomi.
Mattie had married Dee Clarence Apperson, the brother of her sister's (Olive had married Elton Apperson) husband. From what information I have found recently, Mattie and Dee Clarence had 3 sons but all died as infants.
Photo above shows "the Watkins siblings". Maggie and Naomi are missing from this photo. Maggie died in 1904 and Naomi died in 1937. This photo was found after my husband's mother passed away without names listed, therefore I do not know which of the ladies is Mattie although Mae is on the far right.
Grave location (NO marker): Block 19, Lot 15, Site 1.
